The Team Plan Calculator is a quoting tool specifically designed for small businesses that need to purchase devices in bulk at discounted rates. The primary goal was to streamline the process of building phone and SIM-only deals online, offering tiered discounts based on the number of connections added. Once the quote is built, users can request a callback from an EE agent to personalise and potentially negotiate the deal further.
This initiative was driven by a business request to increase sales leads, providing an efficient way for small businesses to handle multiple purchases simultaneously.
Given the scope of the project, our team focused solely on the creation of the calculator, while the discoverability and information architecture (IA) were handled by another team.
We began by understanding the core needs of our target audience—small businesses looking to purchase devices and SIM plans in bulk. A proof of concept was completed to evaluate the potential value of this tool to our users.
With analytics indicating a 50/50 split between mobile and desktop users on related pages of the EE Business site, we designed the tool with both platforms in mind. Our low-fidelity wireframes focused on creating a simple, intuitive interface that allowed users to:
We conducted team reviews to gather feedback and made iterative adjustments to the design.
To validate our design decisions, we moved forward with creating a high-fidelity prototype, focusing initially on the desktop experience. Usability testing was conducted with a sample group of users, which provided critical insights into the tool’s functionality and ease of use.
Rather than having to call up an agent to build the quote, the ability to use the calculator to provide an instant quote was beneficial to time-poor users.
Several participants appreciated the ability to obtain a quote without having to sign up or provide personal details.
Using the pricing calculator empowered participants to obtain a quote independently and play around with selections to get optimal price (not always possible on phone)
The usability testing revealed that customers found the Team Plan Calculator to be a valuable tool that saves time and offers convenience with no commitment required. Although we currently have no data to track its performance post-launch, the positive feedback from user testing suggests a strong potential for this tool to generate more sales leads.
